CALA move to McLellan Works
Award winning homebuilder, Cala Homes (West), has announced it will relocate from its Falkirk HQ to Glasgow, in a move that will firm up its commitment to the city and complement its new hybrid working model whilst bringing the team closer to its key sites and developments in the West of Scotland.
As the lease on its current head office, Cairnlee House in Falkirk, comes to an end, the relocation, will see the team move closer to its core Glasgow and west of Scotland market as it takes up residence in the McLellan Works in Glasgow city centre. Cala Homes (West) enlisted the help of commercial real estate experts and Glasgow-based firm, Phil Reid Associates, whilst building owner, Bywater Properties, was advised by Cushman & Wakefield and JLL.
Bringing around its 100-strong HQ workforce into the city centre, shows the importance the city plays not only in its current business with Jordanhill Park in the West End and Pacific Quay development in Media City, but also its future business as its land team is actively seeking more city centre land acquisitions for future sites.
The workforce will relocate to its new 5,700sq ft site on Sauchiehall Street in a bid to provide greater flexibility for the team, promoting a new blend of home and office working, whilst also fostering an office environment that encourages even more collaborative working and a sustainable travel to work.
Speaking on the move, Jim McIntyre, Managing Director of Cala Homes (West), said: “This move creates a real opportunity to strengthen our focus as a west of Scotland business, re-imagine the purpose and profile of our office, and to adapt to new ways of working.
“As a homebuilder, we’re obviously very conscious that those living within a space have the power to truly make it a home, so we’re keen for our whole team to be involved in developing our bespoke office space.”
Dan Mead, Head of Asset Management at Bywater Properties, said: “We’re proud to welcome Cala Homes to McLellan Works this year. Refurbishing the final spaces within the building has been made possible by Cala’s commitment and we look forward to announcing the final new tenants to complete the occupancy of our building soon.
“The financial and people investment that Cala will bring to our part of Sauchiehall Street, and the western side of Glasgow city centre, will help the continuing strengthening of the profile of this area, and add to the vibrant mix of uses, cultural leaders and businesses it offers.”
Johane Murray, Partner and Head of Real Estate at Brodies LLP, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have assisted our client Cala Homes (West) with securing a lease at McLellan Works, as they move forward in their exciting plans for Glasgow and the West.”
Phil Reid, Managing Director of Phil Reid Associates Chartered Surveyors, added: “It was a pleasure working with Cala Homes (West) and, having looked at several options, it’s great to see them secure a space in one of Glasgow’s best recent contemporary office refurbishments. I’m sure this high-quality successful building will be a great home for the business as it looks to realise its plans for further growth.”
The central location of McLellan Works brings the team closer to its numerous development locations across west and central Scotland, including Jordanhill Park and Prince’s Quay in Glasgow, Gilchrist Gardens in Renfrewshire, Beatrice Meadows and Jocelin Gardens in East Dunbartonshire, Balgray Gardens in Newton Mearns and Sequoia Meadows in Jackton.
